SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2 PM
MAGUIRE CENTER, WESTMINSTER OAKS
Some years ago, when Rhea Schwartz was President of JGST, a meeting was held in which participants in Jewish genealogy in Tallahassee came together to display information about their family background. It was a satisfying experience and we all learned about our colleagues’ Jewish background. It even resulted in two of our members discovering they were related! On the afternoon of November 4, we will repeat that type of program and we encourage you to be part of it. We also would be pleased if you invited your Jewish friends to participate as well.
The program will be open to all, both within and outside the Jewish community. We will also have tables and chairs in the center of the room for persons to converse with others and enjoy some light refreshment.
YOUR PART: It is important that we have everyone participate in order to show the vibrancy of our Jewish community. The materials displayed can include family trees, ancestral photos, documents such as marriage certificates and immigration and naturalization records, and ritual artifacts which helped to tell the story of an individual’s or family’s genealogy. Your material can include separate items or be included on a poster board. We encourage you to bring children or grandchildren with you because this should be a significant learning experience.
THE LOCATION: Westminster Oaks is located off Dempsey Mayo Road, which runs between Mahan Drive and Miccosukee Road in NE Tallahassee. As you enter the campus and pass through the gate, you will be on Meandering Way. Continue on that road until you see signs directing you to a Parking Garage. At some point, you will make a left turn toward the Garage, which has free parking. You are advised to park on the second or third level, which have a flat parking area. Then go to the corner of the Garage where there is an elevator and take it down to Level T (for Tunnel). When you exit the elevator, follow the tunnel to the end where you will be entering the Maguire Center. One advantage of this is that, in the event of inclement weather, you will not have to bring an umbrella or walk through the rain.
FURTHER INFORMATION: PLEASE let Charles Nam, 850-391-1408 or Rabbi Garfein, 850-999-8924 know that you will be coming with your material.
