We were horrified and deeply saddened
at the anti-Semitic attack on the
Tree of Life synagogue that took place
on Saturday morning, October 27, 2018.

Brother comforts brother during the service that brought members of all faith traditions together to denounce hatred.
We joined Jewish communities everywhere in expressing our outrage and grief. The cold-blooded and brutal attack on Jews gathered in prayer on Shabbat demonstrates that evil knows no limits. The peace and sanctity of Shabbat were shattered, the sense of security of a house of worship wiped away
This attack has shaken our community, where many are concerned about the possibility of a tragedy of this nature unfolding in our own back yard. The Tallahassee community came together to process and heal.
On Monday evening, October 29, 2018, a service was held at Temple Israel in memory of the tragic shooting in Pittsburgh. Approximately 1,400 people from across all faith traditions attended the service. As a community we prayed, we remembered, and we vowed to put an end to bigotry and hate.

Rabbi Jack Romberg was joined on the bimah at Temple Israel during the service by members of the Tallahassee Jewish community as well as many, many church and civic leaders from across our city in a heart-wrenching show of solidarity against hatred.
We pray for the full recovery of those injured in the attack. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who were killed. It is time for us all to recommit ourselves for the day when bigotry and hatred are eliminated.
